Nancy's Memorial
Nancy was my friend. So many people had the privilege of saying those words. I met Nancy when I became her downstairs neighbor up the street from the park where she loved to walk. She was a wonderful neighbor. Nancy and I had an instant connection in that we were both teachers. We had some wonderful talks! Nancy had a gift for being there for her friends, including me, and doing whatever she could to lighten a burden, give encouragement, or to provide whatever one needed to get through whatever it was that he/she was going through. Her friends were diverse and many as was evidenced by the attendance at her memorial. But as diverse a group of friends that we were, there is one thing that we all shared in common; we loved Nancy! The memorial was exactly what Nancy would have loved. Bev, Nancy's sister, did an amazing job putting it all together. I kept saying to myself, "Nancy would have loved this!" And she would have. People showing up in casual colorful clothes. Her five year old grand-nephew singing his heart out for her. Laughter, smiles, and hugs. Colorful table decorations, sea shells, leis, and beautiful flowers decorating the tables. A fabulous spread of absolutely delicious food and Baskin- Robbins ice cream, which Nancy thoroughly enjoyed! We basked in her memory and felt the joy of having known her. There was a twinge of saddness, too, that she wasn't there to enjoy it with us - or was she? I think perhaps she was! I will miss you my friend. Rest well and know you have run a good race. Heaven is a better place for you being there.
