Riley's Farm 2016
Riley's Farm Civil War reenactment - what a blast! It was raining, cold, and windy. The fog wafted in and out so thick sometimes that I couldn't see more than a foot in front of me. But that didn't matter, because we had such a fun time. Imagine grown men running around like little boys yelling, "You're dead, you're dead!" while shooting their guns. Haha, I just had to laugh at the sheer exuberance of the reenactors as they ran behind the stand of trees, or hid behind the trench the guys had prepared the week before the event. The battles were not scripted and no one ran drills. It was act and react with the joy of little boys playing war. What a hoot! I also had a first time experience at this event. I donned some boots and a hat borrowed from one of the reenactors in our Unit. Then I put on my long black coat and I was allowed to "blend in" on the battlefield and take photographs. What a thrill. Now you have to understand that there were times when I could hear the guns going off, but I couldn't see a thing. Sometimes the wave of fog that drifted through was as thick as pea soup. A walloping time was had by all. The battlefield was fantastic, the location beautiful, and Mr. Riley was so generous in allowing us to use his property for this unique event. This was a "reenactors only" event and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
